7-27-06 -- Karen and Nails returned to the trail today.  Karen flew to meet Nails yesterday.  They are starting at Crawford Notch, NH where they left off last time.  Their first adventure will be to immediately climb Mt. Washington, about 3000 foot climb in 3 miles (6288 feet above sea level).  They will hike for about a week and their goal is to make it to Maine.  It’s 47 miles to the first road crossing, then 31 more miles to the next one.  This makes for a pretty serious commitment once they head out for each leg of the hike.  They plan to stay the first night at Lakes of the Cloud, about 12 miles from their start point.  Karen said she will not be able to check in with us very often since the trail is so remote through this northern section.  But hopefully, we will hear from her in sometime during the week.

7-31-06  -- Karen and Nails got off the trail today at the Gorham road crossing in Hew Hampshire.  They hiked 5 days and covered 47 miles.  They were unable to call in with any reports during this section of the hike, so see Karen’s letter for details of their 5 day adventure.
